Week beginning 28th September

This week it was all about the music! The week opened with a live band experience where the whole school was able to see how much fun it can be to learn a musical instrument like the guitar and drums! Everyone was up in their feet rocking away! Y3/4 ended the week in a similar way as they all had their music lesson where they looked more closely at the drums! Lots of children listened hard and gave some fantastic answers. I think some of them benefited from the fact that they are learning to play an instrument themselves!

English`

This week we have looked more closely at story planning through story boards, snapshots and developing the skill of retelling stories orally. Some children had to speak extremely fast to retell a whole story in a few seconds! Then we were all treated with lots of acting talent as the children made predictions about the ending of Freya and the Goblins. They were able to see how good narration can move a story along for the audience.

Maths

The children have been able to improve their number bond knowledge; some up to 1000 and improve the skill of rapid recall. We are now able to recognise a pattern in a series of numbers and share the most effective methods we be been using to complete addition and subtraction calculations. This week we will put our learning into practise and apply it to problems.

History

This week we have begun to look more closely at everyday life for the Vikings. We went inside a long house and looked at how they were build and what features you would find inside. We soon realised it would be very smokey and dark and often the animals would share the house too! The children were able to make comparisons with their own homes and draw plans of their houses. Some children had to be estate agents and try and sell a long house picking out its best bits!
This week it's all about the fashion...Viking clothing, what did they wear, how was it made and what with?

Science

In science we are looking at how sound is made through vibrations; the music has really helped with that too. This week we will have a go at making our own telephones!

Looking forward to an exciting week of learning! Bring it on.
